2019 district workshops
This FREE workshop is for all park and trail or outdoor recreation managers, city/county administrators, land commissioners, outdoor recreation advocates, and others responsible for parks and trails in Greater Minnesota
This year, the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission District Workshops will provide great new information about the development of the regional Legacy system in Greater Minnesota. Workshop agendas will include:
This year, the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission District Workshops will provide great new information about the development of the regional Legacy system in Greater Minnesota. Workshop agendas will include:
- An outline of the GMRPTC regional system and its process for designation of parks and trails.
- A review of the updated online application and associated tools and resources.
- Focused training on conducting Regional Analysis and Maintenance and Operations Planning.
- Special Guests from each district will share their expertise or a case study from a regional park or trail in that District.

DISTRICT 1

SPECIAL GUEST: Jim Shoberg, Landscape Architect with the City of Duluth will be talking about sustainable off road trail design. Jim has been instrumental in the development of the Duluth Traverse Mountain Bike Trail System as one of Greater Minnesota's top regional facilities.

SPECIAL GUEST: Marla Yoho, Administrator of Fairview Township and Rob Mason, Administrator of the City of East Gull Lake will be joined by other partners to talk about the multi-jurisdiction collaboration that is creating the Gull Lake Regional Trail in Cass County.

SPECIAL GUEST: Kristi Fernholz, Senior Planner with the Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission and Jean Garbarini, Landscape Architect of Damon Farber consultants will share a case study of the significant re-design of Granite Falls Memorial Park as it has become part of the GMRPTC regional system.

SPECIAL GUEST: Brad Harrington, Parks and Recreation Operations Manager of Wright County and Ben Anderson, Parks Director of Stearns County will share the successes and lessons learned in their joint two-year Connecting People to the Outdoors programming project, which drew thousands of students and families into their parks.
